These are my three options for the Folly jazz series posters. I have not gotten any feedback from my peers so maybe through comments I could get some feedback. Textures are not decided and as for the hourglass I'm not sure if I want to do an illustration or a photo. What do you guys think?
ehhhhhh, your ideas aren't translating real well just yet to this stage in the process. the first one tells me he plays piano, and the colors are maybe kind of jazzy and the type has a nice fluidity to it. but overall it doesn't rock my socks off. it's average. the second one looks like a shepard fairey parody but there are lots of those parodies floating around these days, and i'm not sure it tells me much politically. the type definitely doesn't contribute to any kind of political feeling. that type (face and arrangement) feels dated. the third poster talks about musical time in a pretty interesting way, but the illustration obviously needs a lot of work. also the hourglass is a very archaic way of keeping time -- not contemporary at all. it's an easily recognizable symbol, but so are digital clocks and wristwatches.
ReplyDeleteregarding the photo of vijay -- you can't use someone else's image without their permission. that's plagiarism. and since this will be potentially used in a professional setting, you either have to get permission from the photographer or you have to make your own original image.
I was definitely going to take the time to draw out his portrait and make it my own version for the final poster. After doing some research on typography in political campaigns, I agree with you I'm going to boot that slab serif and try other types. With the hourglass I can't agree more, but a lot of ideas I came up with weren't as strong so I am not to sure about using the time rhetoric as a main part of the poster maybe it could be something that sits in the background.
