Narrative: When Graphic Plays Beyond Narrative

We live in a world visual pollution. H5 understood this an satirized it in Logorama. Exaggerating the idea of commercial and other graphic elements really forces the viewer to think about how often they actually see these graphics. He described how he was able to connect logos to the normal environment, the few I noticed were tmobile as trees and the French's logo as a beach flag. When it come to expressing a narrative these graphic elements can really help. These symbols are something every one can recognize seeing them in such a different context can make them impactful. We already see these graphic and we attach them to their natural habitat so they add context to the narrative though those inherited ideas. Driving a narrative on its own without knowledge of the imagery is difficult guide, so use of recognizable graphic elements can be useful.

narrative: Update

So I've ditched a few ideas. I wont be doing the kids handwriting  any more instead I will use child-like drawing to make transitions and play the the personality of the child version of twain. I've pre-comped most of the text and hand drawn elements are soon to come. I will probably be playing around with expressions in this project for the wiggle effect and a looping expression.

Narrative: no money, mo' problems for Mark

My narrative is to show Mark twain and his inner child clashing through out the poem. To me the poem represents how much paying bills sucks but is a part of growing up. As the bills pile up the more that inner child disappears.

Typefaces:

The adult Twain is shown though various typefaces. One being a typewriter face as he was one of the first writers to use one; various other typefaces are used to adult twain. The child Twain is shown with a handwritten typeface that look very child like called "Elliotsix". The cintrast between adult and inner child will be obvious.

Colors:

The type will be mostly black but the background will be an stained antique paper.

Narrative: The gift

     Sci-fi future based movies almost never do enough to depict political advances they usually focus on the technology. The Gift show this dystopian feel of government with all the solders that are depicted as almost non-human and the obvious communism. That aspect is almost more important in future depictions rather that technology we can get an idea of where technology is heading but we are not so sure where out politics and government are heading.
    The gift it self doesn't seem so important but rather the the idea that secret information is so valuable. Maybe is this future the government knows all and no secrets are kept, this is a definitely feels like a lose or privacy or freedom. The Gift is stated to be a "unicorn" but we didn't see it but it was call beautiful. Its a beauty that other don't want the government to get a hold of.

Narrative: kinetic type

     To the average person type is just something they are reading they don't understand that type maybe actually be persuading the topic they are reading. Typography can make a strong statement or hurt the statement you want to make. Adding motion to type give them a little more life and when added with the right rhythm of reading it can make a topic more interesting, this is kinetic type. Instead of giving your audience an article to read, you can give them a visual media that will deliver that information more effectively.
     With that said, its pretty obvious that kinetic type can be used to manipulate the audience. Now this can be good or bad but to me that's what advertising and marketing is all about. Convince your audience to buy the product or go to that concert. Graphic design isn't just about delivering the info its also about persuading your audience.

This might be not the usual kinetic type style that is seen but this intro to the movie "Enter The Void" really set the tone for the movie such a loud style its almost too much but it really adds to what the movie is about

I recommend this movie to every one it is visually genius one of my favorite movies of all time.

Narrative: Big Think Series (Part One)

   I believe it is to ready in the development to try even decide what to "call" it. Art movements have almost always been named after time has passed to be able to see in retrospective. Post-modernist didnt know they were doing post-modern art they were doing contemporary art which is basically what is happening with motion graphics now.  As mention it is still growing and developing there is a possibility that it will be split in to 3 different categories which in my opinion it already has. its too restrictive to name it either motion graphic, animation, or branding when there so many varieties of works out there.
    Lets take motion graphics and define it, motion means to have movement, and graphic means visual image usually to express information. So logically, motion graphics means to express information with moving images. Animation can be defined basically as a sequence of successive images but to me things that I consider animation usually carry a story. Then finally, there's branding, which is usually for promotional promotional purposes. Each are very different but can actually be mixed together branding/motion graphic, animation/branding, even all three together. So I don't see a reason to call it something just enjoy making it!

Narrative: Inspirational video

"We are Very Busy People" by The Limousines

This video is very clever in every way. The visual graphics of a music video from the views of Photoshop user appeals to me as designers; Obviously its not accurate to how the software works, but I think the methods they use work just fine for the music video. For the narrative, you would actually have to listen to the song to understand what it means. The title "We are Very Busy People" is meant to satire the idea of what people really do with their time. Lyrics like "We'll end up numb from playing video games," "Long list of chores and shit to do before we play, oh let's just piss away the day," or "We'll stay up late making mix tapes, photoshopping pictures of ourselves" are only a few of the unproductive activities the song talks about and although they are things that keep one "busy," they definitely aren't a good use of ones time. This "screenshot" view that follows someone's (possibly a fan's) activity on their computer is cleverly relevant to the song. You see this person doing all these useless tasks like Facebook, making graphic for fun, even some useless stop motion animations. Towards the end, it get even worse with the flip book style animation using multiple window or scrolling pages which is obviously a waste of time. The funny thing is we are all guilty of doing things like this. I wasted time this weekend with things like photoshopping stupid stuff just because I can, instead of doing more productive things with my time. In my opinion, the animator of the video expresses the message of this song in the best way possible.
