VA: Problem statements

How to Create a newletter (both print and digital) that will get more attention from the community?

The first thing we thought up was to translate the print and digital equally (visually) so that they become unified. To add some interaction we thought of having the newsletter as a wall size installation that would allow the community to "vandalize" it as a way for them to interact.

How can we provide the neighborhood with signage?

Most of the surrounding neighborhoods in Kansas City have signage or banners dictating the boundaries of their neighborhood. Most of the signage is pretty dated, and giving Manheim Park similar signage, or even metal signs would give the neighborhood an uplifting, more modern feel

How can we provide the neighborhood with t-shirts, bringing neighbors together by giving them a commonality?

A t-shirt is a good way to represent a cause or unify a group of people. T-shirts are items that no matter what your age, you need and want, making it a good item to bring everyone in the neighborhood together. The production of a t-shirt could be a community event in itself. The neighborhood could hold a t-shirt printing event in which members of the neighborhood as well as people aiding in the re-vamp could partake. People could participate in the making of their t-shirt and could choose from a selection of t-shirt colors, allowing each person to express themselves individually, while still representing their neighborhood. Profits from an event like this could provide funds for a group within the community (a sports team, a food event, etc.)
